Hello Reader,
Eyesight. It is undoubtedly one of the most valuable senses you have. And with computer eye strain becoming a big problem in society today, it is crucial to take proper care of your eyes.
In a year where an estimated 560 million baby boomers will celebrate their 60th birthday, age-related eye diseases are an important health issue.
Optometrists and eye doctors around the world remind those of us 55 and older that early detection through a comprehensive eye exam can prevent or slow vision loss due to cataracts and other age-related eye diseases, such as presbyopia (farsightedness), age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
In the next 4 issues of the Microgreens World Newsletter, we look at your eye health and how microgreens, along with the right food, exercises (YES! eye exercises do work), supplements (if you have chronic problems) can heal and start to restore common eye problems.
“Today’s 60-year-olds are more health-conscious than 60-year-olds 20 years ago,” said Richard C. Edlow, O.D., American Ophthalmology Association information and data committee chairman. “Being better informed about health risks, improved technology, and treatment options has not necessarily translated into including regular eye doctor visits into their health care routine.”
The National Eye Institutes of Australia, Canada, South Africa, UK, US, and other leading countries estimate that over the next 30 years, the number of blind or visually impaired citizens will double. Some eye diseases have no symptoms in the early stages when it is most critical to help slow the progression of vision loss.
You may think that new glasses and a stronger prescription are all you need to regain the vision of your youth. In fact, cataracts may be the cause for the decline in vision. The condition is the leading cause of vision loss among adults 55 and older. More than half the people over age 65 have some degree of cataract development.
So look out next week Wednesday for your Microgreens Minute. It only takes a minute to change your life.
Talk Soon,
Andrew
